Nigerian gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey was one of the invited guests who performed at President Donald Trump’s inaugural prayer breakfast on January 20, 2025.

The breakfast, which is a non-political, faith based event, is held every four years just before the official US presidential swearing-in. Religious leaders offer intercessory prayers on behalf of the incoming president and the US Government.

Referencing Psalm 24:1, Bassey said “America is the Lord’s and the fullness of” before breaking into worship songs with his signature trumpet. Bassey was joined on stage by Reverend Merrie Turner, the host of the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast as they sang “Glory glory hallelujah” together.

“Over every situation in our nation’s life, in your lives personally…may His truth march on. His Word is marching on for America,” said Turner.

Turner prayed that the actions and decrees of President Trump and his deputy JD Vance will open a “window of God’s glory” in the United States over the next four years. She added that as America called in the name of God and turned away from its wicked ways, God will hear from heaven and heal the nation, in reference to 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Bassey led the guests into a time of praise after reading Psalm 24:7 “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.”

“When you hear the sound of the trumpet, raise a shout as we welcome His Majesty, the glorious One, Jesus the Son of the Living God,” said Bassey.

10 days before the prayer breakfast, Bassey revealed how Rev. Turner had called him to invite the worship leader and songwriter to “release the glory of God” over America. He said Rev. Turner reached out to him after she spent time praying for the Inaugural Prayer Breakfast.

Bassey’s online spontaneous worship gatherings known  as ‘Hallelujah Challenge” have attracted millions of views on YouTube from across the globe. Some of his most popular songs include “Imela”, “You are God”, “Olowogbogboro”, “See what the Lord has done” and “Hallelujah Challenge Chant”.
