This is my journey—a testament to God’s faithfulness and the transformative power of faith in Him. My name is Afnan, and since 2019, I have been a believer in God. I grew up in a devout Muslim family, adhering to wearing the hijab and abaya. Early in life, I married and had two daughters, but my marriage was marked by eight years of physical and emotional abuse. In 2018, despite my family’s objections, I made the brave decision to leave my husband. Living with my mother during this period was incredibly challenging, compounded by my brother’s harsh criticism and societal pressure.

During this turbulent time, I encountered a Christian through Facebook—a pivotal moment that introduced me to Jesus Christ and His teachings. I was deeply moved by His compassion and mercy, which resonated with me profoundly; it touched my heart, and I loved Him very much and loved His teachings. My exploration led me to compare Islam and Christianity, eventually recognizing Jesus as beyond comparison. Despite increased scrutiny and threats from my family, my desire to know Jesus only intensified.

I embraced Christianity wholeheartedly, declaring Jesus as my Heavenly Father, God, and Savior.

On July 27, 2019, a violent encounter with my brother nearly cost me my life. His attack was brutal and public, but thanks to the intervention of my sister’s husband and younger brother, I survived. Fearing for my safety, I spent three months away from home before ultimately fleeing to a European country, leaving behind my children who were taken by my ex-husband. The decision to escape was the final decision after the intervention of the government and the police and the filing of lawsuits, and all of which did not deter my brother.

October 21, 2019, marked a turning point as I embraced Christianity wholeheartedly, declaring Jesus as my Heavenly Father, God, and Savior. In Him, I found refuge, and amidst many trials, I was blessed with a new supportive husband, who encouraged me despite the many difficulties we faced. Despite these challenges, we married on June 6, 2020, in a church ceremony.

Now, I devote myself to the Lord and pursue His will in my life. Fulfilling a long-held dream, I joined Bethlehem Bible College’s Online Biblical Studies Program, enriching my understanding and faith. I encourage anyone eager to deepen their relationship with God to consider this transformative journey. Through structured learning and a nurturing environment, Bethlehem Bible College equips students to dispel misconceptions about the Bible and grow spiritually, academically, and socially.
