Paraguay officially launched the "National Alternative Care and Adoption Program" in the presence of President Santiago Peña, First Lady Leticia Ocampos, and Minister of Children and Adolescents, Walter Gutiérrez. The initiative aims to find homes for 1,000 children to be adopted by the end of this year.

The “Guardian Families” campaign was presented as a call to Paraguayan families to open their homes and offer love and care to those who need it most.

Within Paraguay's pro-life and pro-family framework and in line with the firm stance it demonstrated during the recent OAS Assembly in Asunción, the Guaraní government continues to promote the family as the cornerstone of society. Emphasizing the importance of providing a safe and loving home for children in vulnerable situations, the government is now moving forward with plans to facilitate these adoptions.

Through the launch of this initiative, the government aims not only to provide homes for the children, but also to promote the creation of family bonds that contribute to the social and emotional well-being of all involved.

President Peña expressed his hope that more Paraguayan families will participate in adoption, offering a safe and loving family environment to those in need. “It’s not about material things, but about the love and support that come from a home… I reject the idea that we cannot find a thousand foster families in the coming months,” the president stated.

“Through the National Alternative Care and Adoption Program, we are committed to restoring every child and adolescent's fundamental right to grow up in a family,” President Peña stated on the social network X.

His wife, First Lady Leticia Ocampos, expressed gratitude to Minister Gutiérrez and the families who have committed to the program for their dedication. She also emphasized that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up “in a safe and loving environment.”

Minister Gutiérrez noted that there are at least 1,000 children seeking families. To ensure that none of them are left behind, he announced the hiring of 80 highly trained professionals who will work across 13 departments in the country tasked with expediting the adoption process and providing comprehensive support to interested families.

“A country that cares for its children is a country with a future. They are the present and the hope for a better tomorrow. Ensuring their care and protection means laying the foundation for a more just and prosperous society,” the president wrote on his X account.
