The synopsis for the next episode reads, "Sherlock (Johnny Lee Miller) learns a secret about Captain Gregson's (Aidan Quinn) girlfriend when she hires him for a case she wants kept off of Gregson's radar. Also, Sherlock and Joan (Lucy Liu) join the NYPD's search for an abducted woman."
It remains to be known why Captain Gregson's girlfriend demands for her case to be kept a secret from his boyfriend, as well as what her secret is that Sherlock discovered about her.
With regard to the new case that Joan and Sherlock are investigating along with the NYPD, a scene confirms toward the end of the clip that they will be able to find the missing woman.
Furthermore, the official trailer for episode 9 shows a scene where several people were out undressed and the NYPD were arresting them.
Another scene shows Sherlock reading something from his mobile phone to Joan, which seems like he was discussing the "undressed" issue to the latter.
The partnership of Sherlock and Joan seems to be working well but creator Robert Doherty has previously teased that the two will eventually face some hurdles along the road.
Doherty told Entertainment Weekly, "[Sherlock] is a little concerned. He realizes that soon [Joan] will have been a detective longer than she was a sober companion. He's always said she has something of a professional wanderlust, and he's concerned that maybe the sadness that he has detected has something to do with the approach of this anniversary. Joan makes it clear that she's quite happy being a detective, but at the same time, she misses helping people."
Episode 3 of "Elementary" season 5 will air on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
